Duties Explanation

There is hereby established the Big Sur Multi-Agency Advisory Council. The purpose of the Council shall be to facilitate communication and coordination among the governmental agencies that have jurisdiction within the Big Sur Area and the residents and landowners of the area, and to review and make recommendations on proposed projects and developments by federal, state and local agencies for the purpose of reviewing their compliance with the specific policies of the certified Big Sur Coast Land Use Plan. The Council shall review all proposed projects and programs and report to its members agencies on a regular basis. In addition, the Council shall prepare an annual report in December on the implementation by federal, state and local agencies having jurisdiction within the Big Sur Area, of all programs established in compliance with the specific policies, goals and objectives of the certified Big Sur Coast Land Use Plan. The Council may recommend to its member agencies appropriate agreements with public agencies and private non-profit organizations to further the purposes of the Big Sur Coast Land Use Plan. The Council may make such other recommendations to the Forest Service or other appropriate federal agency and state and local units of government as it may deem necessary to carry out its purposes. By invitation of the Council, other representative, such as by way of example the Congressional representative of the District, California Department of Fish and Game, and the Regional Park District may be invited to participate on a non-voting basis in the proceedings of the Council on such terms as determined by the Council. The meetings of the Council shall be publicly noticed, open to the public and shall be in compliance with the Ralph R. Term Rules Explanation

The Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Council shall be elected annually by a majority vote of the Council at the January meeting.

Meeting Day and Time Explanation

The Council shall hold a regular meeting every quarter within the Big Sur Area. The Council shall meet at such other places and times as the Chairperson or the Council shall designate. The Monterey County Planning Department shall provide staff and technical assistance to the Council. * Renamed to: Resource Management Agency, Community and Land Use Division- Planning Unit.
